Some days it’s spring,
some days there’s no such thing.
Perfecting portrayals
with better betrayals
we can’t hear the nails
of so long ago
Masters of fooling
we skated through schooling
but when life got grueling
we got up to go
Clouds brought the cold
we watched us grow old
and some grabbed ahold
of what slips away
The sun may get dimmer
the land may get slimmer
but each starlight’s glimmer
has something to say
Some days it’s spring,
and that’s everything.

Man that rings home. I wonder if we ever actually just become ourselves...
Great one Joaquin (the deserter, heh heh, just kidding, I'm really glad you're posting these oldie goodies)
"Some days it’s spring,
and that’s everything."
That sums up everything!
You were still awesome in the 90s and still are when you are on a break. :)
"Perfecting portrayals

Very wise! Well done!!!
I like this view of a younger you!
"Masters of fooling

..happens all the time, doesn't it?
The sun may get dimmer
the land may get slimmer
but each starlight’s glimmer

You still offer hope and optimism, where it is not so evident. Beautiful verse written with much aplomb. Great to read an earlier poem from your repertoire.
K nails it. I love the twinge of optimism I feel from this piece. But it's realistic. "Some days it's spring, some days there's no such thing." So true!!!
As always, your play on language and your rhythm are two of my favorite things about your work. And your wonderful storytelling ability. Yes, that's definitely up there as one of my favorite aspects of your work. I could go on...
What a fantastic portrayal of life and how it goes. It's so good to read it. You made a good decision to post this month. Thank you!!
